Personally, I think that if everything on the page is to be correct, it wouldn't hurt to change this. I just looked it up to make sure, and every mention of greaser is uncapitalized. An issue has been raised about the capitalization of Greaser.Perhaps another wording could be, "As clarified by the author." ( 13thehappykid ( talk) 03:31, 6 June 2016 (UTC)) I think that "pronounced by the author" is a bit strange wording here, since the book itself says "I'm not sure how you spell it, but it's the abbreviation for the Socials, the jet set, the West-side rich kids." I think this explanation makes it pretty clear that the pronunciation is that of the first syllable of "social" by the text alone the author's pronunciation is less relevant.
